About Operator
Who we are
Operator is built in Australia, for Australian service businesses.
It started with a phone call I was on the wrong end of. I'd rung a business, got an AI receptionist, and came away irritated — it hadn't understood what I wanted, it made me repeat myself, and by the end I still didn't have the thing I'd rung for. I hung up and thought about going somewhere else.
That's what stuck with me. The business that answered my call had paid for something that made me less likely to become their customer. And somewhere in a dashboard, that call was almost certainly logged as a lead captured.
Operator exists because the whole thing could be so much better — not just better at pulling details out of a caller, but genuinely good to talk to. Someone ringing a plumber at nine at night has a problem. They should hang up knowing it's being handled.
What we believe
The caller is the point. Most AI receptionists are built for the business owner — capture the lead, log it, move on. But the person on the phone is a customer deciding whether to trust you. If the call frustrates them, you haven't captured a lead. You've lost one and recorded it as a win.
Finishing beats taking a message. Anything can pick up and promise a call back. Operator checks what you've actually got free, agrees a time, books it, and texts a confirmation — so the caller has an answer before they hang up rather than a maybe.
Built here, for here. Australian voice, Australian numbers, Australian timezones. It should sound like someone in the same country, because it is.
Honest about the edges. No AI handles every call. Operator flags the ones it isn't confident about instead of guessing, so the calls that need a human get one.
